What Is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a common form of gum disease that presents as redness and swelling (inflammation) of your gums or gingiva. It is commonly caused by plaque or bacteria, the sticky film that naturally forms on the teeth. If not removed properly through daily brushing and flossing, this plaque can harden into tartar, which can only be removed with a professional cleaning.
It is important to take gingivitis seriously and treat it promptly. Gingivitis can lead to much more serious gum disease (called periodontitis) and even tooth loss. At Green Leaf Dentistry, our dental hygienists will not only provide a thorough cleaning to remove the plaque and tartar on your teeth, but will also educate you on how to properly maintain the health of your gums and teeth.

What Is Periodontal Disease?

Periodontal disease is a more advanced form of gum disease that is characterized by bone loss, which, if left untreated may lead to tooth mobility and eventual tooth loss. Signs of periodontal disease include red, swollen, receding gums, the development of pockets around your teeth, bad breath, loose teeth, and eventual tooth loss.
Our goal at Green Leaf Dentistry is to stabilize the disease process, thereby preventing further bone loss, by providing deep cleanings, localized antibiotic therapy and periodontal maintenance therapy every 3-4 months such that your natural teeth can be maintained for as long as possible.

What Is A Cavity?

Even with good oral hygiene practices, cavities can sometimes happen! A cavity, or tooth decay, occurs when bacteria in your mouth produce acid that erodes your natural tooth structure. Untreated dental decay can result in tooth pain and infection and should be treated promptly. What Are Sealants?

Dental sealants are clear or white plastic coatings that are painted onto teeth in order to seal the deep pits and grooves in teeth away from cavity-causing bacteria. They are commonly placed in children on the back molars, which can be difficult to clean.
